Human Trafficking Campaign Launch - June 5, 2025

Crime Stoppers of Halton is proud to launch this program, in an effort to rid the province of Human Traffickers and bring justice and support for the victims

MEDIA RELEASE

Crime Stoppers of Halton has launched a new campaign focused on targeting Human Trafficking
crimes across the Greater, Golden Horseshoe Area.

Human trafficking is the act of recruiting and exerting control over someone's movements with
the intent to exploit them, most commonly through forced labor or sexual exploitation. Victims
of this crime endure severe physical, mental, and emotional abuse, and are often forced to live
and work in inhumane conditions.

In partnership with Crime Stoppers programs in the regional municipalities of Durham, Guelph-
Wellington, Waterloo, and Niagara, Crime Stoppers of Halton will guarantee the maximum cash reward of
$2,000 for anonymous ‘TIPS’ that lead to the arrest of suspected human traffickers in any of the
abovementioned regions. The campaign will focus on reducing the victimization and
exploitation of women, and sharing local resources to those who are in need.

Crime Stoppers is working with law enforcement partners at the regional, provincial, and
federal level to target human traffickers. Those partners include the Halton Regional Police
Service (HRPS), Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). and other regional police partner agencies with our participating Crime Stoppers programs at the Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS), Guelph Police Service (GPS), Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS), and Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS). Special thanks to ONRoute, The Women’s Trucking Federation of Canada, and Loblaws Canada for supporting this initiative.

“Human Trafficking victims are often groomed for long periods of time and are difficult to
detect. By sharing the signs and educating the public on Human Trafficking efforts, we hope to
shed some light, and completely remove this disgusting crime from all regions” said Colin
Jessome, Executive Director for Crime Stoppers of Halton.

Crime Stoppers of Halton encourages the public to use our anonymous TIP line at
1-800-222-TIPS (8477)
or to submit a TIP through our website at www.haltoncrimestoppers.ca if you have
